On Monday, August 4th, 2026, hundreds of firefighters continued battling a major wildfire west of Athens, Greece. The firefighting efforts were supported by helicopters and water-dropping aircraft as strong winds pushed the blaze toward mountain communities. The wildfire destroyed homes and farmland, forcing the evacuation of more than 1,000 people. Among those evacuated, over 250 were rescued by boats from nearby beaches.

Evacuation orders were issued in the early hours of Monday for three additional areas. Fire crews also worked to create firebreaks in a forest to help halt the advance of the flames.

The situation remains critical as authorities and emergency responders continue their efforts to control the wildfire and protect residents in the affected region.
