The Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) is investigating a potential violation of a new safety protocol following an incident on Tuesday, August 5th, 2026, involving a commercial plane and the Marine One helicopter carrying President Donald Trump.

According to The Wall Street Journal, the commercial plane took off from Reagan International Airport at the same time that President Trump was departing the White House aboard Marine One. The FAA confirmed to Fox News Digital that it is reviewing the event, which involved a momentary loss of separation between the two aircraft.

The FAA stated that the air traffic controller maintained contact with both pilots during the incident and that after the momentary loss of separation, the aircraft continued to move away from each other. The White House emphasized that the President was never in danger, with spokesman Kush Desai telling Fox News, "Marine One flights are piloted by some of the best aviators in the world, and at no point was the President in harm’s way."

Transportation Secretary Sean Duffy, who recently visited the FAA Air Traffic Control Academy in Oklahoma City, also highlighted the agency's commitment to safety.
