The European Union's migration chief stated on Tuesday, August 4th, 2026, that the bloc successfully passed a "test" of its border security and its ability to resist disinformation amid a migrant surge into Spain's North African territory of Ceuta.

Last Thursday, July 31st, more than 70,000 migrants crossed the border from Morocco into the Spanish enclave of Ceuta within a 24-hour period. This sudden influx heightened tensions among EU member states.

However, these tensions eased following a "constructive" extraordinary meeting held on Tuesday, during which several interior ministers praised Spain's management of the situation.
