An arson attack on Lovitt Technologies, a defence manufacturer in Melbourne's north-east, is being investigated as an act of far-left terrorism. The incident occurred in July 2025 when three vehicles were set on fire and a building was graffitied.
Authorities have revealed the attack is potentially orchestrated by far-left extremists motivated by anarchist and revolutionary ideologies. A video released after the attack, purportedly from the responsible group, threatened the company with a message to "stop arming Israel or else."
Lovitt Technologies was targeted for supplying parts to the global F-35 fighter jet program, which includes both Australia and Israel.
The joint counter-terrorism team, comprising Victoria Police, the Australian Federal Police (AFP), and ASIO, has released images from the video and the attack to identify those responsible.
AFP Detective Superintendent Anthony Hall stated police are progressing in their investigation. He noted that while nationalist and racist violent extremists constitute the majority of ideologically motivated extremism cases, events in the Middle East have triggered a troubling rise in anarchist and revolutionary extremism, straining social cohesion.
Since October 2023, there has been an increase in provocative protests and disruptive tactics by anti-Israel activists, including multiple acts of arson, vandalism, and violent protests against defence companies accused of supplying weapon components.
This case marks the first time Australian authorities have investigated what they consider a potential far-left terror attack motivated by anarchist and revolutionary ideology.
