Former Rep. Mike Rogers (R-Mich.) holds a lead over Democratic candidate Abdul El-Sayed but trails Rep. Haley Stevens (D-Mich.) in the contest for the U.S. Senate seat being vacated by Sen. Gary Peters (D-Mich.), according to a new EPIC-MRA poll.

The poll, conducted from July 24 to July 31 among 600 likely Michigan general election voters, found that 44% of respondents said they would cast their ballot for Stevens or would consider doing so if the election were held today. Rogers received 42% support in this matchup. Meanwhile, 46% said they would back or consider backing Rogers against El-Sayed, who garnered 43% support. The margin of error for the poll is 4 percentage points, placing these results within a close range.

El-Sayed, a physician and progressive activist, is competing against Stevens for the Democratic nomination. His campaign has emphasized economic populism, universal healthcare, and limiting corporate influence in politics. He is among several progressive candidates gaining traction against establishment figures in recent primaries.

The winner of the Democratic primary, scheduled for Tuesday, August 5th, 2026, is expected to face a challenging general election. This is underscored by President Donald Trump's victory over former Vice President Kamala Harris in Michigan during the 2024 presidential election.
