Richmond defender Luke Trainor has been handed a one-match suspension following an incident during the AFL match against West Coast at the MCG on Sunday, August 3rd, 2026. Trainor punched West Coast forward Jack Williams in the stomach while the two were jostling in the goal square. As a result, Trainor will miss Richmond's trip to face Adelaide at Adelaide Oval on Saturday, August 8th, 2026.
Richmond coach Adem Yze had hoped that Trainor would only receive a fine for the second-quarter incident in the Tigers' 11-point victory over the Eagles. However, the match review officer classified the strike as intentional conduct with medium impact and body contact, warranting a one-match ban.
This suspension leaves Richmond short of a tall defender ahead of their clash with Adelaide, whose forward line is led by Riley Thilthorpe.
