Nolan Smith, linebacker for the Philadelphia Eagles, publicly addressed his arrest for allegedly driving 136 MPH in a 70-MPH zone on Interstate 16 in Twiggs County, Georgia. The incident occurred in May when Smith was stopped by the Twiggs County Sheriff's Office. He was cited for speeding and reckless driving, posted bond, and was released.

Smith has apologized to Eagles general manager Howie Roseman and team owner Jeffrey Lurie. "I did apologize to Howie, I did apologize to Mr. Lurie," Smith said, emphasizing his accountability: "I can't let my teammates down like that. They hold me to a different accountability on and off the field. I represent the Eagles no matter where I go. You know, Georgia, Florida. It doesn't matter."

The Eagles have accepted Smith's apology, and he remains on the roster with a contract through the 2027 season, expected to contribute significantly at linebacker. However, his status under the NFL's Personal Conduct Policy remains unclear.

The Twiggs County Sheriff's Office noted that the traffic stop was initiated without incident, and Smith cooperated fully throughout the encounter. It is also noted that no portion of Interstate 16 permits speeds close to 136 MPH.
