Music icon Phil Collins revealed that in 2024, he experienced a life-threatening health crisis caused by organ failure linked to alcoholism. While unconscious in a Swiss hospital, his manager contacted his five children—Lily, Joely, Simon, Nicolas, and Matthew—to prepare them for the possibility of losing him.
Collins told The Sunday Times, "Because there were some decisions to be made about ‘Do we keep Phil on life support?’ kind of thing." He explained, "My kidneys were packing up, my organs were just seizing up."
Though Collins has little memory of those harrowing days, his children bore the emotional weight of potentially saying their final goodbyes. Reflecting on the ordeal, Collins said, "I didn’t have no idea this was going on. They were all worried that they wouldn’t see me again. It could all have gone so terribly wrong."
Months after the crisis, Collins spent time reconnecting with his children and expressed gratitude for surviving the ordeal, stating, "I was very lucky to have come out of that." He also revealed he has not had a drink since the incident.
