The United States Department of Defense has signed new deals with defense contractors Lockheed Martin and Northrop Grumman to increase production capacity for components used in missile defense systems. Announced on Monday, August 3rd, 2026, the agreements focus on the Patriot PAC-3 and THAAD missile interceptor systems.
The Falls Church, Virginia-based defense companies have expanded their manufacturing capabilities significantly due to investments made in 2021. Northrop Grumman reported nearly tripling production capacity at its Allegany Ballistics Laboratory in West Virginia and increasing output by 25 percent at its Maryland facility.
Michael P. from the initiative "Building the Arsenal of Freedom" emphasized the need for "robust, dynamic supply chains at every level of the industrial base." Ben Davies, corporate vice president of Northrop Grumman, stated in a media release, "Our long-term investments in breakthrough manufacturing technologies and resilient supply chains let us pivot from steady production to a production surge in record time."
These efforts come as part of a broader push to strengthen the United States' missile defense capabilities amid increasing global security challenges.
