The New Orleans Saints have placed 24-year-old wide receiver Ja'Lynn Polk on the reserve/retired list, marking an unexpected early end to his NFL career. Polk, a former second-round draft pick, had been away from the team for personal reasons prior to the announcement, according to Saints coach Kellen Moore, who provided few details.

Just days before the move, Polk deleted his Instagram account and went dark on social media. His retirement comes less than three years after he helped the University of Washington compete for a national championship.

Polk's rookie season with the New England Patriots was challenging; he caught 12 passes for 87 yards and two touchdowns. Despite the difficult start, Polk expressed confidence before the 2025 season, stating, "I don't even think about last year," and adding that he believed he was "going to be great."

This development follows other recent NFL retirements, including Cardinals tight end Travis Vokolek, who retired at age 28 after suffering a severe neck injury during the 2025 season.
