Hong Kong authorities found a 60-year-old woman, Ngan Lai-ching, alive on a hillside near the Tseung Kwan O Chinese Permanent Cemetery on Monday, August 3rd, 2026, nearly two weeks after she went missing.
Police reported that Ngan left her home at Kwong Ming Court in Tseung Kwan O on the morning of July 24th without carrying a mobile phone or an Octopus card. After she failed to return home the next day, her daughter reported her missing, and the police classified her as a high-risk missing person.
The search was complicated by a typhoon and several days of heavy rain. Rescuers used police security camera footage to focus their efforts on hills near the cemetery, located about 3 kilometers south of her home. Civil Aid Service personnel discovered one of her shoes at approximately 11:30 a.m. on Monday, with the other shoe found 10 meters further up the hill.
The discovery ended an 11-day search for Ngan, who was found alive despite the challenging weather conditions.
