Minnesota Lynx head coach Cheryl Reeve defended the right of "Save Women’s Sports" demonstrators to peacefully gather outside the Lynx's Sunday, August 1st, 2026 game against the Indiana Fever, while rejecting their arguments regarding transgender athletes.

Reeve stated, "It is not the case that we have 'biological men' in girls' locker rooms," criticizing the narrative that suggests transgender women are predators in such spaces. She emphasized, "There's a lot of narrative that is problematic that we need to address."

Fever star Sophie Cunningham recently expressed her stance on the issue, saying, "I want to protect young girls in a locker room, or young girls in sport who shouldn't have to go against biological men."

Ahead of the game, a rally called "Sophie Night" was planned outside the Target Center by Jennifer Sey, founder of XX-XY Athletics, in support of Cunningham.

Reeve also highlighted the responsibility of the WNBA leadership, stating, "The commissioner and the league have a responsibility to ensure that any topic that could be problematic for players, or they perceive to be unsafe or threatened in any way or discriminated against, I think that’s something that’s fair for our leadership."

She noted that the NCAA currently limits women’s competition to biological females, and the International Olympic Committee will implement biological eligibility rules and genetic screening for women’s events starting with the 2028 Los Angeles Games.

Reeve revealed her stance on the issue on July 17, days before Cunningham publicly shared hers.
