The United States is reportedly planning to reopen strikes against Iran as soon as the weekend of August 1st, 2026, according to U.S. officials who spoke to multiple outlets. CBS News reported that Israel is also involved in the plans to launch what sources describe as “one of the harshest bombing campaigns to date” against Iranian energy infrastructure targets.

The Israeli and U.S. militaries initially launched strikes in this conflict at the end of February 2026. White House press secretary Karoline Leavitt reiterated President Trump’s remarks from a Cabinet meeting held earlier on August 1st at Camp David, where he stated the U.S. military would be hitting Iran “very hard.” Leavitt told NewsNation, “As President Trump said at his cabinet meeting today, the United States will win, and Iran will not have a nuclear weapon under his watch.”

During the meeting, President Trump also said, “At some point, they’re going to say, ‘We just can’t take it anymore,’” referring to Iran. He added that Iran is doing “very poorly” and criticized its leadership as “very dishonest.”

Since the conflict began six months ago, 18 U.S. service members have been killed and 685 injured, according to the Pentagon’s Defense Casualty Analysis System. Public opinion appears divided, with an AP-NORC survey released the same week showing 64% of Americans believe the war is “not worth fighting,” compared to 33% who support it.
