The remains of American climber Sarah Mallory Geis were found on Friday, August 1st, 2026, after she was caught in an avalanche on Broad Peak in Pakistan's Karakoram mountain range. Geis was part of an international group of at least 10 mountaineers who went missing on Thursday, July 31st, 2026.

Rescue teams also discovered the remains of Nadhira Ahmed Abdullah Al Harthy of Oman and Pur Bahadur Gurung of Nepal on Friday. Drone footage and local officials indicated signs of several more bodies in the search area.

Broad Peak, standing at 26,414 feet, is the twelfth-tallest mountain in the world. Members of a mountaineers rescue team were seen departing from an airbase in Skardu, Gilgit-Baltistan, northern Pakistan, to continue search operations.

Irfan Arshad, president of the Alpine Club of Pakistan, stated, "We hope to continue our operations, both aerial search and the ground rescue, till the time we find the survivors or the dead bodies."

The Gilgit-Baltistan police also provided updates on the situation via a Facebook post on Friday.

Meanwhile, unrelated incidents reported include the rescue of an 83-year-old Grand Canyon hiker who got separated from a companion and the death of a Nevada man at Sequoia National Park after a sudden emergency.
