Police are actively searching for a gunman following a shooting incident at a Walmart in Darby Township, Delaware County, Pennsylvania, on Friday evening, August 1st, 2026.

Officers responded shortly after 7 p.m. to reports of gunfire inside the store located at 50 McDade Blvd. Darby Township Police Chief Michael Sousa told Fox News Digital that investigators believe two men engaged in a verbal altercation in the self-checkout area before one pulled out a handgun and fired.

"It looked like, from what we're gathering with my detectives, two males get into a verbal altercation at self-checkout," Sousa said. "One of the males brandishes a firearm, fires a round indiscriminately and hits one of the female Walmart employees in the leg — not the subject he was arguing with."

The injured employee's condition has not been immediately updated. The suspect fled the scene before officers arrived and remains at large. Sousa emphasized, "There is no threat to the public," noting that officers have cleared the Walmart and nearby businesses.

Separately, a California man was arrested for allegedly sending a bomb threat to a judge in the Nolan Wells death case, according to documents.
