Mandy Patinkin, known for his role in "Criminal Minds," has shared his unique wishes for after his death, stating he wants his body to be composted. On his "Don't Listen to Us" podcast, the 73-year-old actor explained that his severe claustrophobia makes the idea of being buried in a coffin unacceptable. He recalled memorizing a speech from "Rosencrantz and Guildenstern Are Dead" about being in a box, which resonated deeply with him.

Patinkin also cited his Jewish heritage as a significant factor in rejecting cremation. He said, "The other idea of being put in an oven is seared into my heritage genetics of the crematorium in Auschwitz, which I've visited. I can't bear the idea of being burned."

While identifying as a "conservative Chicago Jew," Patinkin noted that Orthodox Judaism prescribes that one must not disturb the body after death, including prohibiting autopsies, to remain whole for resurrection when the Messiah comes. He emphasized, "I can't deal with the oven and I can't deal with the box."

He expressed enthusiasm for composting as it avoids both burning and confinement, saying, "I love this idea so much because I don't have to be burned, and I don't have to be claustrophobic."
