TUCSON, Ariz. — As the investigation into the disappearance of Nancy Guthrie nears six months, authorities have revealed that DNA testing on a hair sample found inside her home did not produce a profile. Pima County Sheriff Chris Nanos told Fox News Digital in a July 30th interview that despite sending the sample to a California lab in coordination with the FBI, no DNA profile was obtained.

"Yes, there was a hair. We had it and thought, 'Okay, well, we'll do the DNA first,' right? You're going to do DNA before something else," Nanos said. However, he added, "But does that mean the hair isn't that of the suspect? We won't know that till we have the suspect's hair. You don't just destroy it."

The sheriff expressed cautious optimism about the case, stating, "That's really where some of my optimism is, that I just know that we're gonna get this thing resolved." He also noted that while the hair sample did not yield DNA, it may still hold other investigative value.

The FBI has released images related to the case, including one showing an armed individual tampering with a camera at Guthrie's front door on the morning of her disappearance, February 1, 2026. According to the FBI, the suspect is described as between 5 feet 9 inches and 5 feet 10 inches tall with a medium build.

Sheriff Nanos and investigators continue to urge anyone with information to come forward, emphasizing the importance of any DNA evidence in the ongoing investigation.
