On Thursday, July 30th 2026, Kyiv experienced multiple explosions caused by Russian ballistic missile strikes, with some non-residential sites catching fire, according to Kyiv Mayor Vitali Klitschko. The attacks occurred at 1:18am local time (22:18 GMT Wednesday), as reported by Kyiv Independent journalists on the ground.
Earlier, on Wednesday, Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy had warned that a large-scale Russian attack on Ukraine was likely. He stressed that the safety of Ukrainians depended heavily on the willingness of international allies to provide anti-missile defense systems.
Zelenskyy was returning from the United States, where he stated that President Donald Trump had agreed to grant Ukraine licenses to manufacture Patriot missiles. Following their meeting, Trump posted on social media that “Many things were discussed.”
The missile strikes on Kyiv come amid ongoing tensions and military actions in the region, including Ukraine’s efforts to rebuild damaged infrastructure and warnings against escalation involving Iran after attacks near Ukraine’s Caspian Sea.
