Lions head coach Dan Campbell acknowledged the situation, stating, "You guys know how we feel about Gibbs and all of our guys," as reported by The Athletic. He added, "This will kind of continue. It’ll come as it comes. I think that’s the best way to say it. This is both sides working through something, and we’ll take it as it comes, but that’s where it is."

Gibbs, the 12th overall pick in the 2023 NFL Draft, quickly became an integral part of the Lions' offense and earned a Pro Bowl selection. His absence from practice is reportedly related to contract negotiations, as he is not listed on the team's Physically Unable to Perform or Non-Football Injury lists, suggesting a holdout for a new contract extension.
