A burst water main on Grenfell Street in the Adelaide CBD has caused significant disruptions, including power outages and water intrusion into nearby properties. The incident was reported in the early hours of Thursday, July 30th, 2026, with a field technician arriving on site around 2 a.m. to begin shutting off the water supply, according to SA Water.
The break has led to water entering several nearby properties and facilities, including basements and underground areas. Traffic restrictions are currently in place on Grenfell Street, with the northbound left bus lane closed between Gawler Place and Twin Street.
The incident also affected a substation operated by SA Power Networks (SAPN). SA Water is assisting SAPN in assessing the damage and determining necessary repairs. Additionally, SA Water's Customer Response team is on site providing support to impacted customers and property owners.
