The comedian and former "The View" host discussed the matter on actress Sophia Bush’s "Work in Progress" podcast, describing Trump as an "assh—e liar, megalomaniac, no social skills, no empathy, no compassion," and said she would confront him directly with these views.

O'Donnell suggested that Trump's fixation on her originates from his childhood experiences, telling Bush that he "grew up with girls like me — tough, probably gay Irish girls who didn’t take" disrespect from him, according to Fox News.

The role of therapy in O'Donnell's life was highlighted in a Washington Post profile last year, which chronicled her relocation to Ireland shortly before Trump’s presidency. According to Fox News, she had promised her therapist the Wednesday before Thanksgiving to refrain from posting about Trump for two days.

In a Variety interview related to her one-woman show "Common Knowledge," O'Donnell expanded on her theory of the feud, saying she believes she "trigger[s] him like a PTSD response of all his failures in his life as a kid." She also revealed her diagnosis of major depressive disorder, which influenced her decision to leave the United States.

O'Donnell made similar assertions in an interview with CNN's Jake Tapper, stating, as reported by the Daily Beast, "I seem to be, you know, the obsession he can’t get rid of." Notably, she first claimed Trump was obsessed with her in January 2007 on ABC’s "The View," nearly two decades before her latest remarks.
