Firefighters from Spain's Military Emergencies Unit (UME) are actively combating wildfires in Sotillo de la Adrada, located west of Madrid, as major blazes persist across central Spain. The fires have caused widespread devastation in the Madrid, Ávila, and Toledo regions.
According to Spain's Minister for Ecological Transition, Sara Aagesen, approximately 77,000 hectares have been affected by the wildfires, with the largest burned area reported in Ávila province. Emergency crews remain on the ground working to contain hotspots and prevent further spread of the fires.
The severity of the situation is evident in Navaluenga, where burned homes and charred streets highlight the scale of one of Spain's most serious wildfire emergencies in recent years.
