Tadej Pogacar won his fifth Tour de France title on Sunday, July 26th, 2026, equaling the record for the most wins in the race's history. The 27-year-old Slovenian showcased daring mountain attacks, multiple stage wins, and a composed temperament throughout the event.

From stage 6 onwards, Pogacar maintained his lead without relinquishing it, as noted by James Vasina, a FRANCE 24 journalist reporting from the finish line in Paris. His performance places him alongside Belgian Eddy Merckx, Spaniard Miguel Indurain, and Frenchmen Jacques Anquetil and Bernard Hinault as the only riders to have won five Tours de France.

Pogacar expressed his amazement at the achievement, saying, “It’s an incredible day, there was an incredible atmosphere. I’ve ridden seven Tours already and I’ve always finished on the podium. You might think this is a fairytale, it’s incredible for me too.”

In the final stage held in Paris, which featured the popular uphill climb through the Montmartre district tackled three times before finishing on the Champs-Elysees, Pogacar finished 6 minutes and 26 seconds ahead of Belgian rider Remco Evenepoel in the overall standings. Shortly before 6 p.m. local time, Pogacar shook hands with Evenepoel and Ecuadorian veteran Richard Carapaz, who won the polka-dot jersey for best climber. Carapaz commented, “I battled hard to win this jersey, it was a great fight. It’s the best feeling to win it.”
