A second suspect detained in connection with a deadly car-ramming attack on Berlin’s Pride celebrations has been released, the German federal prosecutors’ office announced on Monday, July 27, 2026.

The attack occurred at about 10pm local time on Saturday, July 25, 2026, in the Tiergarten park near the Brandenburg Gate, close to the annual Christopher Street Day celebrations. The incident resulted in one fatality.

The suspected driver, a 21-year-old man with a record of Islamist extremist activity, was shot dead by police in Berlin on Sunday, July 26, 2026.

Authorities initially suspected the released individual was a passenger in the vehicle at the time of the attack. However, Spiegel cited sources on Monday saying this suspicion could not be upheld.

“We continue to investigate broadly,” the prosecutors’ office told Reuters but declined to provide further comments.
