A Christopher Street Day (CSD) event in Berlin, which annually draws thousands, was targeted on the night of Saturday, July 26, 2026, by a 21-year-old suspect linked to the "Islamist scene" in the city. The attack resulted in one death and 16 injuries, with the suspect, identified as Abdul B., fleeing the scene.

This incident follows several similar deadly vehicle attacks in recent years. In early May 2026, two people were killed and 20 injured when a car drove through a crowd in Leipzig, eastern Germany. The suspect was a 33-year-old German national known to police but not for relevant offenses.

In 2025, at least two people died and several were injured in Mannheim, southwestern Germany, when a 40-year-old German man intentionally drove his car into a crowd. The driver and two police officers were killed in a firefight shortly after the attack.

Internationally, similar attacks have occurred: Four members of a Muslim family were killed in Canada by a pickup truck attacker described by then-Prime Minister Justin Trudeau as "a terrorist attack, motivated by hatred." The 23-year-old white nationalist was sentenced to life in prison.

In the UK, 2017 saw multiple vehicle attacks in London. On March 22, a 52-year-old UK-born man rammed an SUV into pedestrians on Westminster Bridge, killing four before fatally stabbing a policeman. On June 3, three Islamist attackers drove a van into pedestrians on London Bridge and subsequently stabbed people at Borough Market.

Additionally, a man driving a van plowed into crowds on Spain's Las Ramblas boulevard, killing 14 and injuring many more; he was sentenced to eight consecutive life sentences plus 260 years in prison.

These incidents highlight a disturbing trend of vehicles being used as weapons in attacks across Europe and North America.
