A 62-year-old worker died on Monday, July 27th, 2026, after falling from a six-metre-high (20-foot) platform while repairing an aeroplane at the Hong Kong International Airport. The incident occurred at a worksite operated by the Hong Kong Aircraft Engineering Company (HAECO).

Police received a report at 8:35 a.m. that the worker had fallen from a height. Preliminary investigations indicated the worker accidentally fell from the platform while repairing the aircraft’s fuselage indoors. It is believed the fall happened when the worker mistakenly stepped into a gap between two work platforms.

Emergency responders found the worker unconscious and transported him to North Lantau Hospital, where he was pronounced dead at 10:07 a.m.

This incident comes amid broader concerns over workplace safety in Hong Kong. According to data from the Association for the Rights of Industrial Accident Victims and media reports compiled by the South China Morning Post, the city reported at least 62 industrial accidents in the first half of 2026, 24 of which were fatal.
