As fighting escalates again, the majority of the public describes their feelings about the situation as "uncertain" and "frustrated."

Key concerns for Americans include reopening the Strait of Hormuz amid rising gas prices, halting Iran's nuclear program, and preventing Iran from threatening the region. However, fewer people now want the U.S. to end the conflict immediately, a shift largely driven by Republicans.

Republicans, who had supported President Trump last month when he announced a memorandum of understanding for a ceasefire reached in June, now favor continuing the war after that deal collapsed. They advocate pressing Iran until more concessions are won.

The poll also noted that the World Cup had a temporary positive effect on some people's feelings about the country.

The survey sample was weighted to represent U.S. adults nationwide by gender, age, race, and education.
