The association expressed deep gratitude to law enforcement for averting further violence. Officer Gonzales was recognized for running toward danger to ensure the safety of thousands, a dedication to service the WHCA looked forward to honoring.

Following the shooting, it was decided that delivering a speech at the original event would have been inappropriate, underscoring the significance of the rescheduled dinner as a statement that violence has no place in American life and that a free press will not be intimidated into silence.
