The United States launched its 12th consecutive night of strikes against targets in Iran on Wednesday, July 22, 2026, aiming to degrade Iran's ability to threaten civilian mariners and commercial vessels in regional waters, according to US Central Command (CENTCOM).

In response, Tehran has threatened to escalate its own attacks across the Gulf region, warning that “no infrastructure will be safe” unless Iran's security is ensured. Tehran’s chief negotiator emphasized this point, underscoring the seriousness of Iran's stance.

Iran’s semi-official Fars News Agency reported explosions near Bushehr in southern Iran, while Kuwait stated its air defenses were confronting an Iranian drone attack.

Iran’s Ministry of Health reported that US attacks since late last month have resulted in 53 deaths, including three children, and injured 590 others. Meanwhile, the US military confirmed that 18 US personnel have died during the ongoing conflict.

Despite the US expressing openness to negotiations, some US officials, including Senator Marco Rubio, have criticized Tehran as not being serious about talks. The US Secretary of State has also stated that Iran is in "a lot of trouble." Meanwhile, the Pentagon is seeking an additional $67 billion in funding related to the conflict, which has already cost $37 billion.

Iran has declared that its strikes in the Gulf will continue if the US persists with attacks and threats.
