A coalition of 120 millionaires in the United Kingdom, identifying themselves as the "Patriotic Millionaires," have publicly requested that the new Prime Minister, Andy Burnham, impose higher taxes on the ultra-wealthy. In a "Proud to Pay" letter released on Thursday, July 23, 2026, notable signatories including sports broadcaster Gary Lineker and actress Julia Davies conveyed a clear message to Burnham: "As millionaires we have a clear message for you, our new Prime Minister: tax us."

The group expressed concern that "wealth and power has been concentrated in a small group for too long," which they say has negatively impacted the country, its people, democracy, and environment. They emphasized that "for a better Britain, this has to change," advocating that increased tax revenues be used to reduce inequality, enhance public infrastructure, and support small businesses.

Economic analysis cited by the Patriotic Millionaires suggests that implementing a 2 percent minimum annual tax on Britain's super wealthy—those with assets exceeding 100 million pounds (approximately $133.3 million)—could generate around 10 billion pounds ($13.3 billion) annually. This estimate is based on a report by Gabriel Zucman, a professor at the Paris School of Economics, and Ben Tippet, a lecturer at King’s College London specializing in economics and wealth inequality.

Further, the group estimates that a 2 percent tax on wealth above 10 million pounds ($13.3 million) could raise 24 billion pounds ($32 billion) per year, with additional reforms to capital gains tax potentially generating another 12 billion pounds ($16 billion) annually.

The Patriotic Millionaires' appeal comes as Burnham pledges devolution and fiscal discipline if he assumes office as UK prime minister.
