On Thursday, July 23rd, 2026, the U.S. House of Representatives passed a Democratic-backed war powers resolution aimed at limiting President Trump’s military action in Iran. The resolution, sponsored by Rep. Pramila Jayapal (D-Wash.), was approved by a narrow margin of 214 to 208 votes.
Notably, four Republicans crossed party lines to support the measure alongside all Democrats. These Republicans were Reps. Tom Barrett (R-Mich.), Warren Davidson (R-Ohio), Thomas Massie (R-Ky.), and Brian Fitzpatrick (R-Pa.).
The resolution seeks to curtail the president’s ability to conduct military operations against Iran without congressional approval.
