Far-left Twitch streamer Hasan Piker sharply criticized New York Mayor Zohran Mamdani for what he described as overly cautious and optics-driven messaging during an interview released Wednesday, July 23rd, 2026, on Zeteo's "We're Not Kidding" podcast in Washington, D.C.

Piker told Mamdani to "shut the f--- up" and urged progressives to present their policies more boldly. He referenced a recent New York Times interview with Mamdani, saying, "I just listened to his new New York Times conversation where The New York Times asked him, like, ‘If you had unlimited money, what would you do?’ He’s like, ‘Exactly the same policies I’m implementing.’ I’m like, ‘Shut the f--- up, dude.’"

During a broader discussion with Zeteo founder Mehdi Hasan, Piker expressed concern that left-wing politicians are too focused on optics and too quick to retreat when criticized. He said, "If you come across as, like, even a little worried or even a little defensive, then people respond to that with, ‘Oh, maybe she doesn’t believe this either.’"

Piker also commented on the demeanor of some politicians, stating, "The way she carries herself, I think, is a little bit too, like, optics-driven, too liberal and too optics-driven."

Despite his criticism, Piker affirmed his support for Mamdani but argued the mayor should communicate his policies with greater confidence and less concern for optics.
