A three-year-old girl named Addy was bitten by a southern Pacific rattlesnake on her left hand while trying to grab an Amazon package outside her home in Santa Clarita, north of Los Angeles, on July 13, 2026. The snake was reportedly hiding under the brown padded envelope, according to a fundraising campaign note written by her father, Manny Barajas.

Addy's mother, Lynn, quickly took her to meet first responders at a nearby grocery store parking lot, where she was transported to a hospital and given an initial dose of anti-venom. She was later transferred to a pediatric intensive care unit at another facility, receiving two additional doses of anti-venom.

Barajas told KTLA, "She’s doing great now," but noted that Addy still has bruising on her left hand where she was bitten. Despite her recovery, Addy has been asking why the snake bit her.

This incident comes amid an increase in rattlesnake bites in California this year, attributed to heatwaves since March that have heightened snake activity. The California poison control system has reported 277 bites so far in 2026, nearly matching the total number typically recorded in an entire year, according to the Los Angeles Times.

Requests for comment from California poison control and the Los Angeles County Fire Department were not immediately returned.
