A 5.0-magnitude earthquake struck the Texas panhandle, the northernmost region of the state, on Thursday, July 23rd, 2026. According to the US Geological Survey (USGS), the quake occurred at approximately 5:21 a.m. local time at a depth of 3.5 miles (5.7 kilometers). The epicenter was located about 27.8 miles southeast of Spearman and roughly 68 miles from Amarillo.

This marks the strongest earthquake to hit the Texas panhandle since 1900. Authorities reported no injuries or deaths resulting from the early-morning tremor.
