On Monday, July 20, 2026, French automotive supplier Valeo announced a partnership with defense technology firm Harmattan AI to develop and produce electric drone motors in France. These motors, intended for both civil and defense uses, will be manufactured without heavy rare earth elements to help secure the supply chain.

Production is scheduled to begin in early 2027 at a Valeo facility in France. Harmattan AI highlighted that this collaboration helps maintain control over its production capabilities by addressing strategic vulnerabilities in the global supply chain.

Valeo CEO Christophe Périllat stated, "This first contract in the drones sector leverages Valeo's industrial expertise to support national sovereignty."

The announcement follows Valeo's presence at the 2024 Paris Auto Show, underscoring the company's expanding role beyond automotive manufacturing.
