HAMBURG, Germany — KED, the last German family-run bicycle helmet manufacturer, announced it will move its entire production process to China later in 2026. The move, which has attracted little international attention, reflects the difficulties Germany faces in maintaining local manufacturing of bicycles and related parts.

KED helmets, popular with families, will soon be produced in China, underscoring the broader economic and trade tensions between the European Union and China. This shift illustrates the challenges European industries encounter in competing with Chinese manufacturing.
