Senator Jon Ossoff of Georgia has taken a firm stance against former President Donald Trump’s ongoing claims about the 2020 election, positioning himself as one of the Democratic Party’s most vocal critics on the issue. Ossoff, who won his Senate seat in a runoff election held in January 2021, has been outspoken especially in the lead-up to Trump’s national address reiterating his election security claims.

On July 15, 2026, Ossoff engaged in a notable exchange during a confirmation hearing with Jay Clayton, Trump’s nominee for director of national intelligence, repeatedly asking, “Who won the 2020 election?” Ahead of Trump’s primetime speech on July 16, Ossoff dismissed any suggestion that Trump would concede his 2021 victory, calling him “the world’s most famous sore loser” and criticizing the former president for pursuing “six year-old grievances about the 2020 election” amid other national challenges such as the escalating conflict in the Middle East and rising living costs.

Despite speculation about his potential as a 2028 presidential contender, Ossoff has stated he is not interested in running for president and is focused solely on winning reelection to the Senate this fall. Democratic strategist Anthony Coley praised Ossoff, saying, “I think he is speaking truth to power and I think he is meeting a need that a lot of Democrats have been looking for and that’s somebody who fights hard and who understands how to cut through the noise. And he has a way of speaking in a language that every day people can understand.”

Ossoff’s criticism comes in the context of the January 6, 2021 Capitol invasion, when Trump supporters, encouraged by the former president’s claims, disrupted the certification of the 2020 presidential election results.
