Hong Kong’s Legislative Council (Legco) has set off on an unprecedented week-long study trip to Beijing, marking the first time the entire legislature has visited the capital for a "national affairs study visit."

Legco President Starry Lee Wai-king emphasized the significance of the trip on Sunday, stating it provides lawmakers a valuable opportunity to gain a first-hand understanding of the latest national conditions and policies. Before departure, she said, "It is a good time for lawmakers to gain a first-hand understanding of the country’s latest conditions and policies, visit different authorities and organisations and conduct field research."

During the visit, Legco members are scheduled to visit the central government’s Hong Kong and Macau Affairs Office and participate in seminars on topics including national security, international relations, the formulation of five-year plans, and the country’s legal system.

The itinerary also features visits to industries identified as "new quality productive forces," reflecting Beijing's growth model that prioritizes technological breakthroughs and industrial upgrades. Technologies explored will include artificial intelligence, aerospace, and information technology applications.

This study trip aims to help Hong Kong’s lawmakers align the city’s development more closely with national strategies.
