Egypt has begun operating part of what is set to become the world's second-longest single-route monorail line, following one in China. The elevated monorail stretches nearly 57 kilometers, linking Cairo to a lavish new capital city under construction in the desert. Designed to transport commuters and tourists, the route passes notable landmarks such as one of Egypt's largest mosques. Despite its ambitious scale, the monorail currently lacks significant commuter ridership.
