The US military announced on Saturday, July 18, 2026, that two American troops were killed and another went missing following an Iranian ballistic missile and drone attack on a base in Jordan. The attack occurred on Friday, July 17, as US and partner forces defended against the assault. Four additional service members who were medically evacuated to Jordanian hospitals have since been discharged. The identities of the deceased have not been released.

Since the start of the war, 16 US service members have been killed and over 430 wounded.

Minutes before the announcement, Iran’s supreme leader warned of “unforgettable lessons” if the US continued attacks on the Islamic Republic. These remarks, attributed to Mojtaba Khamenei and broadcast on state television, also dismissed US President Donald Trump’s signature as “worthless and invalid.”

The warning came hours after a negotiator stated that Tehran was suspending its commitments to an interim deal signed about a month ago.
