Republican representative Ralph Norman of South Carolina has declared his candidacy for the U.S. Senate seat left vacant by the late Lindsey Graham. Norman's announcement on Saturday, July 18, 2026, came despite former President Donald Trump's endorsement of Darline Graham, Lindsey Graham's sister, should she choose to run.

Norman wrote on X, "I’m running to represent the people of South Carolina in the US Senate because we need a fighter who will stand with President Trump and carry on Lindsey Graham’s legacy!" He emphasized his legislative priorities, stating, "I’ve spent years fighting for the Palmetto State in the state house, in Congress, and now I want to get the SAVE America Act passed in the Senate!"

In an interview with Fox host Kayleigh McEnany, Norman reinforced his commitment to Trump's agenda, saying, "Day one, Kayleigh, I will be laser-focused on passing President Trump’s ‘America first’ [agenda]. And I will be … a vocal vote and a supporter to make this happen."

Norman's announcement follows Trump's statement on Friday, July 17, 2026, that he had asked Darline Graham to run in the special GOP primary scheduled for August 11, 2026. Darline Graham, 62, was appointed by South Carolina Governor Henry McMaster and sworn in on Tuesday, July 14, 2026, to fill her late brother's Senate seat on an interim basis, just three days after Lindsey Graham's death on July 11, 2026, at age 71, following a "brief and sudden illness," according to his office.

The GOP primary winner will face Democrat Annie Andrews in the November midterm elections. Norman has received endorsements from Florida Senator Rick Scott and Utah Senator Mike Lee prior to officially launching his campaign.
