Rep. Ralph Norman (R-S.C.) announced on Saturday, July 18, 2026, that he will run for the U.S. Senate seat representing South Carolina, known as the Palmetto State, following the sudden passing of longtime Senator Lindsey Graham (R).

Norman praised Graham’s legacy, stating, “For years, Senator Lindsey Graham fought hard to save America and defend South Carolina.” He added, “Now, President Trump needs another proven America First conservative in the US Senate to deliver on those America First priorities.”

Norman also highlighted his support for the SAVE America Act, a nationwide proof-of-citizenship voting law endorsed by former President Trump. “I’ve voted for the Save America Act in the House and I will push to end the filibuster so we can finally pass the bill in the Senate and send it to President Trump’s desk for his signature,” he said.

Senator Graham died Saturday evening at age 71 after a brief and sudden illness, later identified as a tear in his main artery. Memorial services are planned for the end of July in Washington, D.C., Pickens, S.C., and Columbia, the state capital.

South Carolina Governor has set a deadline of August 11 to select a candidate to replace Graham on the November general election ballot. The race will pit the Republican nominee against Democrat Annie Andrews, a Lowcountry pediatrician.

So far, businessman Mark Lynch, who unsuccessfully challenged Graham in June, and Duke Buckner have also announced campaigns. An Emerson College Polling/Nexstar Media poll released on July 16 found no clear favorite in the Republican race, though Norman led with 16.4 percent support.
