Paul Pelosi, 86, husband of former House Speaker Nancy Pelosi (D-Calif.), was charged on Friday, July 18, 2026, with a misdemeanor hit-and-run following an incident weeks earlier in which he allegedly struck an unoccupied parked car and left the scene.

According to the Napa County District Attorney’s Office, Pelosi was charged under a California state law requiring drivers involved in collisions causing property damage to stop and provide their driver’s license and vehicle registration information. He was also charged with making an unlawful turn.

The incident occurred on July 3, 2026, when Pelosi was reportedly driving his brown convertible in Yountville, California, and struck a legally parked vehicle. Prosecutors stated there was no evidence that Pelosi had alcohol in his system at the time.

A spokesperson for the Pelosi family told The Hill that Paul Pelosi personally apologized to the vehicle owner and assured responsibility for the damage. The family declined further comment on the matter.

Pelosi is expected to appear in Napa County Superior Court in August 2026.

This is not Pelosi’s first legal issue related to driving. In August 2022, he was sentenced to five days in jail and three years of probation after pleading guilty to misdemeanor DUI charges following a late-night crash in Napa County that injured another driver. He served two days in jail and completed a work program for the remaining day. The Associated Press reported that Pelosi was referred to the Department of Motor Vehicles for an evaluation to determine if he can continue driving, a common procedure for older drivers.
