Three more schoolchildren have died from injuries sustained in a bus crash in eastern Uganda, raising the death toll to 23 students and one adult, police reported on July 18, 2026. The accident occurred on Thursday night when a bus carrying dozens of pupils and teachers from King David Junior School in Kampala was returning from a trip to Sipi Falls.

Police investigators said the driver lost control of the vehicle at Chekwatit village in Kapchorwa district, causing the bus to overturn and collide with a large stone. Dozens of children were rushed to hospitals, with 23 of the injured still receiving treatment at Kapchorwa General Hospital.

Three other vehicles on the same trip returned home safely, according to police. Authorities also announced plans to provide escorts to ensure the safe return of learners to their respective schools.
