Former first lady Jill Biden expressed during a June conversation with "The View" co-host Whoopi Goldberg that former President Joe Biden would have faced harsh criticism if he had engaged in actions similar to those occurring in the current White House.

At a 92nd Street Y event in New York City, Biden hesitated but stated, "You know, if Joe would have done any one of the things that are occurring now, I mean he would have been excoriated."

She also reflected on the media coverage of her husband's presidency, acknowledging a possible media double standard between the Biden administration and the current Trump administration. Biden expressed some regret about not forming closer relationships with the press to be seen as real people rather than figureheads.

Additionally, Biden pushed back against Democratic critics of her memoir, "A View from the East Wing," who argued the book unnecessarily reopened controversies from the 2024 election. During a Washington, D.C., book event, she was asked about comments from former Biden White House spokesman Andrew Bates, who questioned the timing of revisiting these issues publicly.
