NEW YORK, July 15 – Kevin Akoto and Austin Franklin, known as the "Chief World Cup Watchers" for U.S. broadcaster Fox One, have experienced the dream of any football enthusiast by watching all 104 matches of the 2026 World Cup from start to finish—and getting paid for it.
The duo has been stationed inside a glass-walled viewing cube in Times Square on matchdays, attracting passers-by who often stop to watch alongside them. Franklin, an influencer from Los Angeles, shared, "My dad cleans up oil spills for a living. I sit here with my friend Kevin and watch all of these matches and get to go outside and interact with fans."
Throughout the tournament, Akoto and Franklin have actively posted content on their social media platforms, providing commentary and engaging with followers. Akoto, who left his job as a line cook in Florida to take on this role, noted, “If we've seen anything throughout this World Cup, it's that people are consuming sports more through social media. The more behind-the-scenes stuff is how people are consuming sports content.”
Looking ahead, both expressed willingness to continue this role even if the World Cup expands from 48 to 64 teams, a change FIFA plans to discuss after the tournament. Franklin added, “I don't think we're sick of watching soccer yet.”
Their unique experience will be a notable addition to their resumes once the final whistle blows in the final match between Spain and Argentina on Sunday, July 20, 2026.
