Nightly military strikes between the United States and Iran have reached their heaviest levels since the signing of the Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) a month ago. The escalation marks a significant increase in tensions despite the recent agreement.

A former US ambassador, speaking to Al Jazeera’s program This is America, stated that Tehran has miscalculated by assuming that former President Donald Trump would back down in the face of these confrontations.

The MOU, approved approximately one month prior to July 16, 2026, was intended to reduce hostilities, but the recent surge in strikes suggests ongoing conflict dynamics between the two nations.
