BANGKOKMajor transportation companies in Asia, including China's Didi Global and Japan's Toyota Motor, are prioritizing shifts toward cleaner energy. This focus comes amid growing concerns over securing oil and other energy supplies, especially following recent disruptions tied to the Iran conflict.

The emphasis on diversification was discussed during a panel at the Nikkei Asia Forum APAC 2026 held in Bangkok on July 16, where key figures such as Didi Global Strategy Department Partner Joanne Xu, Didi Global Director Ryuji Tomoe, Toyota Motor Asia CEO Masahiko Maeda, and SCG CEO Thammasak Sethaudom participated.

The panel, moderated by Nikkei Asia Editor-in-Chief Akito Tanaka, underscored the strategic importance of cleaner energy adoption in the transportation sector to enhance energy security in the region.
