Ukrainian Defence Minister Mykhailo Fedorov announced his resignation on Wednesday, July 15th, 2026, as part of President Volodymyr Zelensky's cabinet reshuffle. Fedorov, who took office in January at age 35 as Ukraine's youngest defence minister, cited it as "a great honour to serve the Ukrainian people as defence minister" in a detailed Telegram post highlighting his ministry's achievements.

During his tenure, Fedorov oversaw a rapid expansion of drone warfare capabilities and initiated sweeping army reforms amid Russia's full-scale invasion that began in February 2022. He also secured a deal with Elon Musk to provide Starlink satellite connectivity to Ukrainian troops while restricting Russian forces' access to the network.

The resignation followed Ukraine's parliament approval on Tuesday, July 14th, 2026, of Prime Minister Yulia Svyrydenko's resignation after a year in office. Ukrainian media reports suggest that Fedorov could be replaced by current Interior Minister Igor Klymenko.

Meanwhile, Russia continued its military campaign with missile and drone strikes on Ukraine, causing massive fires that firefighters worked to extinguish, as shown in footage reported by Al Jazeera.
