A retired math professor, Leland Jameson, 64, has been charged with second-degree murder and use of a firearm in the commission of a felony following the shooting death of his wife, Chisen Jameson, a 60-year-old airline meteorologist.

Police responded to a home in Fair Oaks, Virginia, where they found Chisen Jameson suffering from gunshot wounds. She had called 911 before the shooting, and officials reported that sounds consistent with gunfire could be heard in the background of the call, according to FOX 5.

Leland Jameson placed his own call to 911, reporting a domestic dispute with his wife and stating he did not know how badly she was hurt. He is a former professor at George Mason University and earned his Ph.D. from Brown University.

Chisen Jameson worked as a meteorologist for All Nippon Airways. The airline expressed heartbreak over her death, stating she was a valued member of their team and that her passing has deeply affected everyone who knew and worked with her.
